M6 reopens 12 hours after lorry overturns in Cheshire
A stretch of the M6 in Cheshire has reopened – 12 hours after a lorry collided with a barrier and overturned. The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway near J17 at Sandbach shortly after 4.40pm on Tuesday. As a result the carriageway was closed between J18 at Middlewich and J16 at Stoke-On-Trent/Crewe.

Investigation work is currently being carried out on the southbound carriageway, which is likely to remain closed for several hours, with highways officers beginning to release traffic from the motorway at around 7.30pm.
One lane of the northbound carriageway remained closed as of 8pm. No injuries have been reported at this stage. Earlie this evening, a Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Officers were called just after 4.40pm on Tuesday 11 January to M6 between junction 17 to junction 16 at Sandbach following reports that a HGV had collided with a barrier.
“As a result of the collision, the HGV is on its side.
“The M6 southbound is currently closed between junction 18 and junction 16.”
Shortly before 5am this morning, National Highways reported that the motorway had reopened.
