HGV driver dies in head-on collision in Goldthorpe

AN HGV driver died after a head-on collision between two lorries in Goldthorpe. Police said the victim had been driving a Mercedes HGV away from Hickleton on the A635 Goldthorpe Bypass at 7.24am last Friday, when it had collided with a Scania HGV travelling in the other direction. The Mercedes driver, a 53-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Scania driver, also a man in his fifties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, the spokesperson added. “The drivers of two cars who were both travelling behind the Scania HGV both suffered minor injuries,” they said. “The collision occurred between the junction wth Doncaster Road and the Fields End roundabout.”

Anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision, or who captured dashcam footage of the incident, is asked to get in touch with the police via 101.
