Lorry driver ‘struck by own vehicle’ critically injured in M62 crash
A lorry driver injured on the M62 near Warrington is in a critical condition after he was ‘struck by his own vehicle’. Merseyside Police officers were called to the M62 near Junction 7 (Rainhill) shortly before 1.50am on Wednesday morning (November 24) following reports a lorry driver was injured on the carriageway. It’s believed he was struck by his own vehicle, suffering serious leg injuries, before the vehicle collided with a nearside barrier.
No other vehicles are thought to have been involved. of the top stories from across Cheshire here. Merseyside Police said the driver has life-changing injuries and is in hospital in a critical condition.
An investigation is underway into the incident. The M62 was shut for several hours to allow an investigation to take place, but was fully reopened by mid-morning. Police are now appealing for witnesses to get in touch with them.
Sergeant Steve Smith, from Merseyside Police’s Matrix Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are currently working to establish what has taken place in the lead up to this incident. “I would ask anyone who was travelling along the M62 close to junction 7 in the early hours of this morning who saw the vehicle or witnessed anything to contact us. “We are also appealing for anyone with dash cam footage which could assist our investigation to get in touch.”
