Lorry crash closed A37 for hours after colliding with bridge

A lorry crashed into a railway bridge in Somerset scatttering debris all over the road. The collision happened on the A37 just south of Lydford-on-Fosse, near Somerton. Big queues of traffic formed in the wake of the crash, but the road was cleared by 1:30pm.

Network Rail has been contacted for further information on the impact the collision has had on the railway bridge. The A37 stretches from Bristol down to Podimore in Somerset. The bridge concerned has a height limit of 4.4 metres or 14 feet and 3 inches.

Police put a diversion in place for the duration of the incident.
