Drivers stuck in traffic after lorry gets wedged under low bridge

Furious motorists in Wakefield were stuck in standstill traffic for hours after a lorry crashed into a low bridge. These shocking pictures show the vehicle with its cargo titled to one side after it struck the bridge on Denby Dale Road. The white Iveco truck was stuck for hours with police shutting roads on a nearby roundabout.

Click here for more stories from the Wakefield area. Wakefield West Councillor Michael Graham took to Twitter to warn drivers to avoid the area. The councillor said: “A HGV has become wedged under the bridge on Denby Dale Road at its junction with Thornes Road.

“Traffic backed up in all directions, Thornes Lane also affected. Avoid if possible.”

Motorists were fuming

Will Poching, who said he was ‘stuck for hours’ in traffic, took to Twitter to voice his annoyance. He joked: “Don’t think it’s guna fit for some reason.”
