LORRY CRASH ON THE DOWNS FORCES ROAD CLOSURE

A road traffic collision involving an articulated lorry on The Downs has resulted in the road being closed by Police in both directions this morning (Thursday). The incident has occurred to the east of the Hare and Hounds near Downend. Emergency services are responding to the incident, which occurred just before 10:20.

UPDATE @ 10:40 – A Co-Operative delivery lorry has crashed up an embankment, coming to a stop side-on across both lanes of the carriageway.

The lorry remains upright, however. The driver of the vehicle has managed to exit the cab and appears to be uninjured. The road is likely to be closed for sometime whilst recovery agents devise a plan to safely remove the lorry from its current position.

Police have closed the road between Downend and the junction with Brading Down Road.

Motorists should divert via Havenstreet or Arreton.

UPDATE @ 14:30 – The road has reopened.
