Jump in an HGV and wave goodbye to corporate misery

As a relatively new truck driver I share Tom Reddy’s enjoyment of the job (News Review, last week). In the past three years I have driven loads ranging from cars to refrigerated pharmaceuticals. I soon realised that my new colleagues were grafters: genuine, kind people, eager to help and offer sound advice.

Those were qualities sadly lacking in the corporate world, where I had been an account manager for 20 years.

I am now driving for a bakery in the Midlands. My days are long, but when I get home that is it: no one on the phone making ridiculous demands. I sleep soundly.

In the morning I will be up as the sun rises and will drive my beautiful machine to Cardiff
