Girl, 16, fighting for her life after hit-and-run in West Yorkshire

A teenage girl is fighting for her life after a hit-and-run. The horror crash happened shortly after 4.45pm in Station Road in Ackworth, in Pontefract. A 16-year-old was walking along a grass verge before she was hit by what is believed to have been a flat-bed truck.

For more news from across Wakefield click here It briefly stopped a short distance away from the scene before continuing on its journey. The girl was taken to hospital with serious head injuries which have been described as life-threatening.

Three men have since been arrested and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was seriously injured in a road traffic collision in which the driver of the vehicle failed to stop. “The incident happened yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, October 13) shortly after 4.45pm on Station Road in Ackworth, near Pontefract.

“Three men were arrested after the incident.”
