Truck cab destroyed in suspicious Hythe fire

POLICE launched a probe into a suspicious blaze involving a pick-up truck which broke out in a Hythe street in the early hours.

Firefighters responded to multiple 999 calls reporting flames spreading from the vehicle to a nearby building in Elm Crescent around 1.50am today (Tuesday).

Equipped with breathing apparatus, crews from the town and Hardley spent over an hour battling to contain the emergency, by which time the truck’s cab had been destroyed.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Police were informed as the fire was believed to have been set deliberately.”
